Power outage today in Greater Sudbury Area

Lights will be knocked out today for some in the Greater Sudbury Area, but if your at work… you may never notice it. Greater Sudbury Hydro says a power interruption is expected for approximately 150 customers in Coniston. The outage will begin at 9 a.m. and should be concluded by 3 p.m., affecting areas which includes Edward Avenue, Walter Street, William Avenue, Nickel Street, and Gloria Avenue.

Male taken into custody following Police Chase

It started with a failure to pay for gas, and ended with an arrest following… a 3-hour police chase. A Sudbury man was taken down in Marathon after the Wawa OPP responded to a gas theft call from Davidson’s Fuel LT. Authorities said that after a lengthy chase, they loaded the man walking out of the bush where he was taken into custody. He is facing a raft of charges.
 

Moose killed in bus accident

A moose got in the way of some travel plans this week. Reports say an intercity bus en route to Timmins had much of the windshield smashed in when the vehicle hit a large antlered moose on Highway 101, about a kilometre west of Hoyle. OPP out of James Bay detachment, said there were three people on board at the time. Nobody was injured, but the animal was killed in the impact.
 

A shift in the Sault Ste Marie work force

More are leaving the work force in Sault Ste. Mare according to one numbers group. Census Canada’s labour force data says this week that the shift in the labour force is due to the aging demographics of the community stepping down, but also an inability to attract and retain young people or young working immigrants. Census Canada says, a solution to the issue aside, the average age for Sault Ste. Marie residents is 44.6
 

Nippising Celebrates 25 years

There was much pomp and ceremony… and birthday cupcakes for Nippising University yesterday. The school celebrated 25 years in the community, with the birthing of a time capsule from the wall of the school, from 1992.
 

One in custody following vehicle theft, break-in

Meanwhile one man is in custody, after Sault Ste. Marie Police say he drove to a business in the 900 block of McNabb Street, in a stolen motor vehicle. It’s alleged he and another male broke into the compound of that business and took a large amount of copper wire. The 33-year-old from of Wellington Street, was held for bail court.
