3% Tax levy for Sudbury propriety owners
The Sudbury Budget is in for 2018. In the budget, a three per cent property tax increase is announced. This means that if you live in Sudbury with a home valued at $230,000, you will now pay $87 more a year. In addition, water/sewer rates also increased 7.4 per cent.
New health unit almost complete
The sounds of construction continue to fill parts of the downtown section of North Bay, but reports say… they’re almost done the Parry Sound District Health Unit. The company responsible for the project is about 96% completed, and they are expecting a winter move-in date.
More money coming for for cycling in the north
More is coming for those wanting to gear down and peddle further in Sault Ste. Marie. The Sault has learned that it will receive about $580,000 – more than double expected – in provincial funding to implement bicycle lanes and accessories across the city.
Sudbury Based program coming to Algoma U
Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie has penned a deal with Laurentian University in a new engineering program. A Laurentian based program, it’s set on enrolling 20 to 30 students from the Sault and Algoma District when the program starts in September 2018.
2nd Degree Murder Charges on Sudbury area Senior
A 64-year-old woman from Killarney has been charged with second degree murder in the death of a Killarney man. On December 7th, shortly after midnight, Sudbury OPP and the Sudbury-Manitoulin District EMS responded to an injured male in Killarney. The man was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Lock it or lose it numbers are in.
It’s been another year of “lock it or lose it” reminders from Police across the Province, and now the report card is in. Sudbury Police say they’ve dealt with 1,400 thefts, or just over four per-day on average. In the past month alone, there have been 170 such incidents, and in 98 per cent of the cases, the vehicle was left unlocked.
