Bomb Squad called in at Sudbury School
A heavy Police presence could be seen at Ecole St. Joseph yesterday in Greater Sudbury. This is after a potential bomb threat was called in at around 2:20 p.m. The school was evacuated, and the students were sent home. According to twitter, officers checked the school and found nothing suspicious.
$2 million more coming for child care
More is coming when it comes to child-care in the North. $2 million to be exact. The funding will create 49 new childcare spaces, housed at Churchill Public School in Greater Sudbury. MPP Glen Thibeault made the announcement yesterday.
Canadore has the lowest drop out rate
Final withdrawal numbers have been totaled from Colleges across the Province following the faculty strike. Canadore College in North Bay is boasting the lowest numbers are the lowest in the province. Canadore College had a total of 158 pull out from school, 58 those are planning on returning.
Flooding at local river base
While the warmer temperatures are a nice reprieve from the cold, there can be an unfortunate and dangerous side effect. Flooding. Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry in the Sault Saint Marie area says that exactly what’s happening at the base of the Chippewa River. The MNRF, along with Batchewana Fire and Rescue are monitoring the situation.
Hydro worker caught stealing… Hydro
A Hydro One worker is on the hook for $5000 after stealing hydro. The 52-year-old Timmins worker was in court yesterday, to answer to charges after using his expertise to hook up his cottage, under the radar and off the books. He has since lost his job, and will be on probation for the next year.
Fare hike coming for Sault Ste. Marie riders
Transit riders in Sault Ste. Marie Transit will pay more to hop on the bus, come 2019. While the price changes are extensive, as of January 1st, a cash fare will be $2.85, with adult 31-day passes $66. The transit authority says that what A 20-ride multi-pass will cost $45, while a youth 31-day pass will cost $28. City council approved an increase in November.
