OPP targeting speeders

If you’re out the door today, on Ontario Highways around the Greater Sudbury areas, you may want to give some extra thought… to your speed. In a recent two-day blitz by the OPP in what they call “Project Slow Down” 15 commercial motor vehicle drivers were charged with speeding. Drivers on highways 17, 69, 124 and 144 were all targeted.
 

25k goes to healthy hearts

A healthy heart is what everyone wants, and now another donation is going to help Sault Ste Marie residence get there. The Sault Area Hospital says they will be expanding local cardiac services thanks to community donations, including a $25,000 infuse from from Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life. The funds will expand the range of cardiac procedures available locally.
 

Margaret Trudeau coming to Timmins

If you’ve ever wondered what the Mother of a world leader thinks… now’s your chance. Margaret Trudeau, the mother of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is coming to Timmins for a talk on mental health. In an evening entitled “Changing My Mind – An Evening with Margaret Trudeau” the Prime Minister s’ mother is slated to be at Northern College, Feb. 13.
 

Sudbury Senior facing careless driving charges

A Sudbury man faces charges after his vehicle flew off highway 17 this week. The accident happened near Nairn Centre. OPP with the Manitoulin-Espanola detachments responded along with paramedics to the Highway 17 collision. A 68-year-old Sudbury man, who received treatment has been charged with careless driving, as well as failing to properly wear a seatbelt.
 

Nylon rope a hazard – Conservation Authority

Those recreating in the Timmins area are being asked to keep on eye on the trail, and one on the trees. The Mattagami Regional Conservation Authority says it has received some reports of nylon rope being strung up between a tree and a post at Gillies Lake. While some has been taken down, there is concern any other ropes, may injure those sledding through.
 

P.C. Caucus set to elect interim leader

Ontario’s Progressive Conservative caucus is slated to meet today. Their only agenda item will be to elect an interim leader to replace Patrick Brown. Brown stepped down early yesterday, amid alleged misconduct allegations.  Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says that he has let his name stand, for the seat of interim leader.
