Over 900 collisions in 3 months
Despite friendly reminders, warnings to driver… and everything in between, according to Police Drivers are not getting the point when it comes to driving according to conditions. Between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, Greater Sudbury drivers called in 909 vehicle collisions — an average of almost eight per day. In January, 300. City Police say that following too closely, making improper turns, failing to yield, and loss of control top the complaints.
Alfred Humphreys passes at 64
Canadian actor Alfred Humphreys, has died. Affectionally referred to as ‘Alf’, he was inductee to the North Bay Musicians and Entertainers Hall of Recognition in 2017. Eventually, he acted next to stars like Sylvester Stallone, and on shows like The X Files and Da Vinci’s Inquest. Humphreys was 64.
Aquatic Facility comes to a head, again.
Timmins Mayor Steve Black says he’s is willing to stake his re-election chances, if need be, in the fight to get a new swimming pool for the city. Black was responding to concerns raised at the city council over whether the city can truly afford to finance the aquatic centre, expected to cost roughly $48-million.
Cold weather facility needed
City of Sault Ste. Marie Staff say they are putting together a plan that aims to protect the city’s vulnerable from the extreme cold weather. Council passed a resolution to come up with a plan that will see the creation of a warming shelter in the Soo. Key factors will be whether a new location is necessary and partnership with existing initiatives.
Protective Barriers investigated for Transit Drivers
Greater Sudbury city staff say more could be done, when it comes to the welfare of Transit Bus Drivers, and their safety. This is after a recommendation to test install barriers to protect transit drivers on the job. City councillors will take the issue on themselves, Monday. It would start as a pilot Project, with drivers themselves deciding on the compartment for the remaining of the fleet, after a year.
Busted for weapons, drugs following theft
A Cochrane man is on the hook for several charges, after an electronic device was stolen from the public library in Cochrane. When OPP in Cochrane located the man, not only did they find the stolen device, they also discovered some drugs and weapons. The 28-year-old was held for a bail hearing.
