Eight busted for “Stunt Driving”
Sudbury OPP are reminding drivers heading out this morning, to slow down. They’ve issued stunt driving tickets to eight people between March 16 and March 24. Stunt is defined as driving speeds in excess of 50 km/hour over the posted speed limit or committing aggressive driving actions.
Another fire in North Bay
No injuries were reported in a rooming house fire on Regina Street shortly before 5 p.m. The property manager said there were 10 residents at the rooming house. One resident entered the building to rescue two dogs. No further details were available at this time.
“Stars and Thunder festival” ticket sales up, this month
The “Stars and Thunder Festival” will get an update tonight at Timmins city Council. The report states that in a month-by-month comparison, March ticket sales are up slightly this year over last year. As of March 19th, 2017, 166 tickets were bought, while this year 174 was sold. The city staff says to break even based on the budget, the city needs $3,264,370 in gross sales.
Suspect wanted for theft, fraud
Crime Stoppers and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are asking for assistance in identifying a suspect in a theft and fraud. They say that on March 17, 2018 at approximately 2:35 p.m., a male attended at a local downtown business and (allegedly) stole a purse that contained a credit card. The unknown suspect then attended at the Macs Mart located on Gore Street. (It is alleged that) the unidentified male proceeded to purchase $75 in assorted items with the stolen credit card.
Power restored after outage in North Bay
All up roughly 2,200 in North Bay had their power punched out last night the downtown core. Hydro one says that this was all due to a damaged cable at a substation. The power was fully on for all residence and businesses just after 10:00pm
First Nations Advisory Committee will be Explored
Timmins Mayor Steve Black is looking for Timmins council’s support to create a First Nations advisory committee for Timmins area. The idea would be that such a committee could host training for cultural sensitivity and awareness, as well as for truth and reconciliation. The move would see three flags permanently hoisted at city hall to the tune of $50,000.
