Forest fire season has begun

While there is still a little ice on the lake… forest fire season has started up in the North. The conservation authority says that since May 3rd at least three fires have been put out. Two were in the Sudbury area, and was in Algonquin Park. The forest fire hazard for May 7 is low to high across the region.
 

Emergency preparedness week

The city of Greater Sudbury says they are working through what to do, should the unthinkable happen. Its emergency preparedness week in the Nickle City and they city says that this Thursday, they will the city will conduct a test of Sudbury Alerts in partnership with Glencore, Greater Sudbury Police Services, Greater Sudbury Utilities, Vale and Public Health Sudbury and Districts.
 

Drug bust during traffic stop

A 19-year-old North Bay man is faces drug charges after being stopped by the OPP. It happened on McKeown Avenue, and while the stop was originally for a traffic offence, Police say while looking through the driver’s insurance and registration, small baggie of illegal containing small white pills, suspected to be illegal fell out. The accused was released on a promise to appear to appear in court.
 

Male wanted following break, enter and theft

Crime Stoppers and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are looking for information, following a break in and theft. They say on May 3 at approximately 7 a.m., an unknown male entered a building being remodeled at 232 Northern Ave. East. The suspect then filled a bag with copper fittings and left. Anyone with information should call police.
 

Man ticketed for filming while driving

We’re all told that when driving, you’re suppose to keep two eyes on the road and just as many hands on the wheel… but according to Constable Shona Camirand one driver found out the hard way how quickly distracted driving can lead to charges.

He is facing a number of charges, included distracted driving.
 

North Bay fire destroys garage

A large fire has destroyed a garage connected to a home in the North Bay area, It happened along the eastern end of Peninsula Road on Trout Lake. Firefighters got the call around 4:30 p.m. yesterday from the two residents of the home, and they were able to get out safely along with their two pets. Firefighters were forced to pump water from the lake to get the fire put out.
