Public Health Sudbury and Districts report no new cases of COVID-19 once again
Public Health Sudbury and Districts says zero new cases of COVID-19 were reported yesterday in the local jurisdiction. This is the third day in a row. The health unit also reported 29 cases are being watched locally.
OPP investigate Fatal fire in Markstay-Warren
West Nipissing OPP and the Stinson Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire yesterday, that proved deadly. One person was located deceased. The vehicle was on Kukagami Lake Road, about five kilometres north of Highway 17, in Markstay-Warren. The investigation is continuing.
North Bay police investigating a potential arson
The North Bay Police Service is currently investigating a potential arson. It happened in the area of Pinewood Park Drive early Monday morning. There is no word as to total damage done, nor potential suspects.
Step two for PUH starts tomorrow
The Porcupine Health Unit region is moving to Step Two of the provincial reopening this week. Medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton confirmed the news yesterday. Catching up with the rest of the province, albeit two weeks behind the only exception is Moosonee, where enhanced restrictions are still in place.
Splash Pad planned for Sault Ste Marie
A splash pad is being planned Sault Ste. Marie’s west end. The City council approved a motion calling on municipal staff to identify potential sites this week. Lennox Park and the Elliot Sports Complex are both possible.
Cooling Centre opens in Greater Sudbury
Greater Sudbury will have a new cooling centre on July 1st. With the YMCA daytime and overnight warming centre closing, daytime services will now be operated at 199 Larch St. by the Sudbury Action Centre for Youth. Space has a capacity for 30 people with protocols in place.
The centre will operate from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily and will remain open until Aug. 31. City staff continue to work on plans for providing services in the fall.

NBRHC says 30% of adults are fully vaccinated
The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit says, more than 30 percent of all adult residents in the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit region are now fully vaccinated. The latest update Monday afternoon from the health unit shows 79,429 people, or more than 73 percent of all adult residents, have at least one dose of vaccine.
South Porcupine Food Bank to offer services
The South Porcupine Food Bank is rallying to operate following a fire in their building. Despite losing its supplies due to smoke damage, the food bank will be offering services out of a van starting today from 1-3 p.m. in front of its location on Main St. Since the fire, people in the community have rallied to collect food and cash for the organization.
Elliot Lake Charge resident following dispute
Elliot Lake OPP has laid charges following a call for service. It happened on the weekend. It began when one person attended the apartment next door to ask the neighbour to turn the television down. Once permission was granted to enter the apartment, the resident allegedly shot the complainant in the arm with an air gun. A 62-year-old will have his day in court in August.
