NBPS district health unit reports 6th COVID-19 related death
The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit reported one new COVID-19 related death Sunday. It is the region’s 6th. No further information is being provided.
Hanmer man located deceased following a boating accident
A Hanmer man has been located deceased after a boating accident. It happened Saturday when a canoe he and another man were in capsized on Lake Huron. Manitoulin OPP got a call before 10 a.m. in the area of Spring Bay. One of the canoeists was located awake and hypothermic. He was transported to a local hospital by Sudbury-Manitoulin Paramedic Services. The second was located yesterday.
Sault Ste Marie Police in the P-Patch area
Details are still coming in regarding a call to Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. Officers were called to the scene of a residence in the 100 block of Pentagon Boulevard on Saturday afternoon. A male had apparently suffered from injuries and was transported to the hospital. No further information has been released.
Bell Park Main Beach given the all-clear
Bell Park’s Main Beach in Greater Sudbury is good to go. This is after a swimming advisory, recently put in place, has been lifted. The most recent water samples taken at the beach are within acceptable bacteriological water quality standards for bathing beaches, and the health unit has cleared the area.
Elliot Lake residents asked not to dump trash in Snow dumps
Elliot lake is reminding residents to use the Municipal landfill, after yard material, yard debris and garbage was found in the in Municipal Snow dumps. Signs to that end have been posted to that end. Anyone caught doing so will face fines, and residents are reminded that the landfill is open without cost.
PHSD report Zero new cases of COVID-19 reported for Sunday
Public Health Sudbury and Districts reported zero new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. That means there are now nine active cases, as of news time, being monitored by public health officials.

Rev. Fraser Williamson replaces Stephen Rawn
Sundridge council has replaced former town councillor, Stephen Rawn. Rev. Fraser Williamson was been named to council during a special meeting on June 30 last week, and his appointment is now in effect. Stephen Rawn resigned from the council after selling the family home and moving to Strong Township with his wife.
Timmins City Council approves funds for Deloro Landfill Methane gas system project
Timmins City council has approved an increase in the funds for the Deloro landfill methane gas system project. The Site, evidently, has never been equipped with a landfill gas collection system. Additional funds of just over $57,000, plus HST, will push the overall project value past $211k
Woman safe following Project Lifesaver
An elderly woman is safe and sound thanks to Project Lifesaver. The resident who suffers from dementia was reported missing on July 2 but was quickly found in good health. She had apparently departed from a home in New Sudbury and was gone for roughly an hour. Once the officers learned she was enrolled in the Project Lifesaver program, specialized equipment was used and she was quickly found in good health roughly 30 minutes later.
North Bay Food Bank being closed due to Maintenance
The North Bay Food Bank is being closed for minor building maintenance. It’s for the week of July 19-23. Clients eligible for food service are being asked to visit the week of July 12-15.
Justin Trudeau will be in Sault Ste Marie
