Some parents to decide on online vs in-person learning today

Many parents and students are still deciding on the upcoming school year… whether to do online learning or in-person learning…. and the Rainbow District School School board says they need to hear from Parents today. The largest school board in the northeast, says the deadline to decide is today. At noon. The Rainbow District School board sent parents a survey last week, to decide between online and in-person classes.
 

Possible COVID-19 exposure announced by APH

Algoma Public Health issued an advisory for a low-risk COVID-19 exposure. It is for a reception in Bruce Mines on Aug. 7. It was on Plummer Rd between 3 p.m. and midnight. Attendees who are considered high-risk contacts have already been notified by APH. All other attendees are considered to have low-risk exposure and are asked to self-monitor.
 

HSN seeing an increase in their ER department

Public Health Sudbury and Districts say HSN is currently seeing a significant increase in demand for services as well as an increase in the number of visits in the Emergency Department. Due to this increase, patients may experience longer wait times than usual and they are asking the public for their patience.
 

North Bay Councillor running for Office

North Bay councillor Scott Robertson sent in a leave of absence letter to the city clerk. The first-term councillor is running for the NDP, and has already started door knocking.
 

New guide rails coming to Timmins

Timmins city council has approved the awarding of a contract, for the servicing and replacement of guide rails within the city. The contract, valued at $132,500, plus HST, was approved during their last meeting following a presentation by the city’s director of public works and engineering.
 

OPP looking for missing woman: 24-year-old Storm Shawana

OPP is looking for a missing woman. 24-year-old Storm Shawana was last seen Aug. 8 near Amsterdam Road in Elliot Lake. Shawana has connections to Manitoulin Island and Sudbury. If anyone has information regarding her whereabouts, they are asked to call the police.
 

Petition calls for barriers at Schumacher waterway

A petition calling for changes at Little Pearl Lake in the Timmins area has already surpassed its goal. The lake is just off Highway 101 East in Schumacher. The online petition calls for improved safety features, such as a new barricade. It has already passed its benchmark of 500 signatures.
 

Bonfield looking at a tax levy increase of 7.2%

Taxes in Bonfield could be going up.  The township has drafted their 2021 operating budget, with a tax levy that could see a rise by 7.2 percent. The exact number has not been revealed yet, as the budget still needs to pass through council before it is officially adopted by the municipality.
 

Soo area airport looking at a passenger airport

The Sault Ste. Marie Airport is seeing an increase in passenger totals. And, for the first time in decades, a charter air service is now operating out of the airport. This past July there was a 16 month high with about 4,250  passengers, double what we did in August.
