Vaccines will be required at Nipissing University this fall
Nipissing University says all students, faculty, staff and others coming to campus this fall will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Moreover, the post-secondary school says those individuals will need to attest to their vaccination status. There is no word as of yet, as to the process and specific date the requirement will come into effect.
10-new cases of COVID-19 announced by PHSD
Public Health Sudbury and Districts reported 10 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. Six of the new cases are located in Greater Sudbury while two are located in Sudbury east and two are located in the Manitoulin district. 15 cases were also resolved.
Missing Teen: 15-year-old Jevon Rocchetta
Sault Ste. Marie Police is looking for a missing teen. 15-year-old Jevon Rocchetta was last seen on Tuesday, August 3rd. Jevon is described as 5’10” tall, approximately 180 pounds, with black bushy hair. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Police.
$3.1 million coming to DSSAB
The Ontario government is providing more than $3.1 ($3,152,300) million to the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board. The office of Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli made the announcement in a statement yesterday. The hope is that the funding will help DSSAB deliver critical services, support vulnerable people and unlock affordable housing in our community.
Sault Police investigating a single MVC
Sault Ste Marie first responders were on the scene of a motor vehicle collision on Second Line East. At least two vehicles were involved, and one flipped completely over. The car crash has slowed traffic near St. Mary’s College and Aurora’s Hillside. There was no word as to the cause, nor injuries.
Transitional housing unit to be discussed in Greater Sudbury
A $7.4-million dollar transitional housing will be discussed at Sudbury city council. Part of the Rapid Housing Strategy, it’s slated to be a potential 40-unit transition housing build. This is after the city dismantled of a tent city Aug. 12 and the subsequent removal of the roofed pavilion on Aug. 13 in the downtown.
NBPS district lagging on COVID-19 vaccines says, Province
The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit continues to inch upwards when it comes to COVID-19 but remains below the Provincial Average. Just over 82,000 (82,410) people in Nipissing and Parry Sound districts have received two shots, while just under 91,000 (91,659) have received one dose of the vaccines now available. Both figures are slightly below the Provincial average.
Road closure announced for Sault Ste Marie Drivers
A notice has been issued for Sault Ste Marie Drivers this morning of a road closure. Old Garden River Road is now closed at Third Line East. The closure will last three weeks and is part of the Third Line East reconstruction project.
