Traffic Delays in Greater Sudbury

While it may be cool outside, an industrial air conditioning system is slated to close lanes today for Sudbury drivers. Both westbound lanes on Elm Street at the Laurentian University McEwan School of Architecture will shut down from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Traffic will be diverted into the eastbound lane, causing significant delays. Elsewhere, Sudbury city crews are taking advantage of warmer weather this week, and the immediate result is a delay for drivers. Crews will be working around the clock this week to lay pavement connecting Notre Dame Avenue to the Maley Drive extension. The new section of Notre Dame is done parallel to the existing road to minimize disruption.
 

Accident slows traffic in North Bay

Meanwhile, traffic was reduced to a crawl yesterday in North Bay. Fire, police and ambulance all responded to a two-vehicle collision at the busy intersection of Seymour Street and the Highway 11 bypass. It happened yesterday just after 9 p.m. There is no word as to whether anyone was seriously injured.
 

Get your Flu Shot – the Health Unit

The Porcupine Health Unit is reminding everyone to get their flu shot. This is after the first case of influenza A in the Cochrane District walked through this week. The Infectious Diseases Program at the Porcupine Health Unit says there are expecting other cases, and they’re encouraging residents to be proactive by getting vaccinated.
 

Busy intersection the subject of study

One of Sault Ste. Marie’s busiest intersections is not the subject of a traffic study. City council says that Second Line and Great Northern Road is under review to see if there are ways to clear traffic congestion. The traffic study, along slated to include an active transportation component, will cost $40,000.
 

Another defect for Greater Sudbury?

Annual budget talks are starting to make their way into city council agendas. The city of Sudbury’s finance committee has met to discuss how to curb running another deficient budget for 2018. The deficit this year, $2.45 million on its more than half a billion-dollar budget in 2017. Members of finance and administration committee will meet again next week.
 

Missing woman could be in North Bay

There is hopes this week that a missing Toronto Woman may turn up in North Bay. The youngest of five girls, Tess Richey is 22-years-old, described as 5’2″, with a thin build, dark brown eyes and brown wavy hair. She was wearing a green army style jacket with zippers, black leggings, black tall boots and a Roots multi-coloured purse. Richey was raised in North Bay and attended E.W. Norman Public School and Widdifield Secondary School before moving to Toronto.
