Close call, after collision with a truck

Bantam AAA hockey team is lucky to have come out unscathed following a collision with a transport. The Blue Heron Timmins North Stars, had been playing in Sudbury, when, on the way home their bus was hit by a transport truck. It happened just south of Levak. When the transport attempting to pass, lost its steering and struck the side of the bus. The bus was able to continue following a delay, there is no word as to the other driver.
 

Casselholme redevelopment moving ahead

The Cassellholme redevelopment project in North Bay will get unanimous support in Queen’s Park. While it was due for third reading this week, a legislative amendment has gained all-party support. The $60 million Cassellholme project will get $30 million from the province, while Cassellholme’s board may now borrow the remainder.
 

Manitoulin man injured in fire

A Manitoulin resident is recovering, following a fire near his residence. The Gore Bay Fire Department responded and assisted with a male. The 33 year old male of Gordon Township was taken to hospital. The cause of the blaze has not been released. The fire is not considered suspicious.
 

Sault Ste. Marie seeing a 1.98 tax levy increase

While Sault Ste. Marie homeowners will see their residential tax budgets increase for 2018, the increases will be less than half of the increase experienced in 2017. City council passed its 2018 municipal levy last night with an overall increase of 1.98 per cent. Of that, the internal corporate increase for the city is 0.993 per cent. They also passed a capital budget of just more than $52 million. Road work, planning projects, and equipment and community service area all receiving funding. Capital road reconstruction projects for 2018 will include Bruce Street from Queen to Wellington; Black Road from Second to Third Line, Bay Street from Andrew to Pim Street.
 

Water-safety statement remains in place

The rainfall warning has ended for Greater Sudbury, but Conservation Sudbury says a water safety statement remains in effect for all parts of the Greater Sudbury watersheds. Parents should keep children and animals away from water ways. The statement will remain in effect until Thursday.
 

Accident in North Bay leads to charges

An accident on the Bypass near Cassells Street brought the North Bay OPP around, along with charges to a 49-year-old driver. But Police had to locate him first. Evidently, after the accident, the driver left the scene. He was found a short time later, and was found to have been drinking.
