The Porcupine Health Unit says that when it comes to needle usage in the community, the hospital saw roughly 100,000 turned in, last year. That, believe it or not, is a 45% return rate for the return program in 2017. The harm reduction unit says that while number is average throughout the province, it leaves just over half of PHU-distributed syringes unaccounted for and they would like to see more sharps bins installed.
