Transit routes possibly being reduced in Greater Sudbury

A boost in transit ridership is being attempted in Greater Sudbury. Following the introduction, last week of a sweeping reform plan that included the idea of new hubs, a reduction of routes to 27 from 38 is also being proposed. The idea being that some poor performing routes could be dropped in favour of more frequently serviced.
 

No Summer in the Park for 2019

The lights have all but gone down on the possibility of Summer in the Park this year in North Bay. While the fate of the festival has yet to be voted on by council, the plan contained in the 2019 municipal budget is to cut the funding in half down from $80,000 to $40,000 – and allocate those funds for special events. Summer in the Park wrapped up 2018 nearly ½ of a million in the red.
 

Man arrested for driving impaired, parking on the sidewalk

Cocrane OPP has laid charges on one individual found to be allegedly impaired by drugs and behind the wheel of their car. This was after Police looked into why the driver, a male in his 40’s parked his vehicle up on the sidewalk. Thankfully no one was injured, but the man will now make a court appearance to explain himself.
 

Roof collapses, while man is removing snow

Thankfully, no one was injured after a roof came crashing down at a Greater Sudbury residence this week. It happened at a home west of Lively. Reports indicate that the weight may have pushed the exterior wall outwards causing the roof to fall inwards. The property owners were on the roof removing the snow when it caved in.
 

Man sought in case of theft

West Nipissing police are searching for a man, wanted in a case of theft. This was after he, reportedly, entered the store Sunday wearing a mask and requested cigarettes. When the clerk refused on account that male did not supply ID, the suspect went behind the counter and took them himself before leaving.
The suspect is described as between six feet and six-feet, three inches tall, thin build with a blue jacket, dark pants, winter hat with ear flaps, dark winter boots and face mask.
 

Passenger rail asking for another boost for the North

A regional group is calling on the Ontario government to consider Passenger Rail, once again, as it prepares for its first budget. The Northeastern Ontario Rail Network issued a release Monday suggesting Northerners are asking if there will be dollars assigned to the project in the upcoming provincial budget. The service would run all way down from Cochrane to Toronto.
