Police association steps up with donation
This week, the Sudbury Police Association stepped into the gap for veterans. The group presented the Legion with $5,000 to help with its annual Remembrance Day drive, compromised this year by the theft of coin boxes from a variety of locations in the city. Vehicle takes out lamp post
Another vehicle has struck a lamp post in North Bay. This time, Emergency services responded to a single-vehicle collision at the Highway 17 and Algonquin intersection. It took place at around noon yesterday. Details on the collision are not as of yet available. This is after a vehicle slid through an intersection just a few weeks ago, striking a traffic light on Trout Lake Road.
Doctor recognized in Timmins
A Timmins doctor is being recognized for her efforts in the medical field. Dr. Nancy Woods has been named the 2017 Ontario College of Family Physicians Regional Family Physician of the year in the Northeastern region. Woods has worked at the Timmins and District Regional Hospital for her work in the community for over 30 years.
More recycling coming to North Bay?
New garbage and recycling outlines could soon be coming for North Bay. City Councillors says they will consider a mandatory municipal recycling program for apartment buildings and a new buck-a-bag component for curbside garbage collection. Putting the municipal recycling program into place would come with a $12,000 price-tag.
Sleep clinic getting another go?
The subject of the pending closure of the sleep lab in Timmins may see new daylight. MPP Gilles Bisson say the Ontario government is looking into ways that would keep the lab open. This is after the MPP told the Wynn Liberals that, while closing the sleep lab as way to save $160,000 a year, the fallout would see Timmins and area residents applying for millions in travel grants, travelling outside of their home community for this service.
