Senior numbers will jump in the next 20 years – CEO

Sault Ste. Marie would need the equivalent of two more nursing homes… Equivalent to the F.J. Davey Home, a three level 374 bed long-term care nursing home, to accommodate the anticipated waiting list for long-term-care beds. The Sault Area Hospital’s CEO was in front of city council this week and says the percentage of Sault Ste. Marie’s population over the age of 75 is about 10 per cent, a number expected to increase over the next 20 years to 29% overall.
